So, this past Monday we went to Potsdam as a group. Let me start out by saying that Potsdam is weird. When it was built, it was built for looks not quality. Nearly everything there has been restored or reconstructed completely. The government building was rebuilt, complete with sliding glass doors. The church was reconstructed with a false bottom dome and comic sans sign out front ( I'm sure comic sans was Frederick the Great's favorite font.) The obelisk outside the church is fake too, a replica of the original. There is also an ORIGINAL obelisk that I didn't take a picture of that is near the palace that had fake hieroglyphics. Gibberish.
As I walked through the city, it kind of reminded me of Epcot. It's as if one area is French inspired then you walk a block or two and you're in the Dutch quarter. It's just odd. We stopped in the Dutch quarter for lunch. A small group of us went to this AWESOME Italian place with wood fire pizza. Will and Taylor went up beside the pizza area to watch the guy make pizzas and the guy ended up giving them a lesson! They literally got to make their own pizza! It was super cool. The guy made my pizza "special," he told them. 2 minutes in the oven and they were done. I got mine and it was in the shape of a heart and absolutely delicious. To say the least, we're going back again. Here's pictures of everything I've spoke about so far. The palaces are next!

The remaining pictures are of the gardens and palaces in Potsdam. All of the indoor shots are of one palace that was Frederick the Great's summer home which he only lived in 2 weeks pew year. 400 rooms. Again, made cheaply so most rooms weren't fit for entry. The tombstone with the potatoes on it is for Frederick the Great's dad (I think) because he was renowned for introducing the potato to Europe. The picture after that is of the view from the back of one of the palaces. It's Roman ruins... apparently Frederick the Great loved Rome and wanted to feel as if he was there when he looked outside. (Again with the whole Epcot vibe).
The rest of the week was just filled with school work and rest. I will update again next week - maybe a little late because this weekend we're taking a weekend trip to Hamburg!
Peace out.
